American Red Cross “Dancing” Fundraiser to Announce 2016 Event Participants at October 6 Kickoff Party

Another cast of local celebrities is assembling to participate in Dancing with Our Stars for the American Red Cross of Northeast Wisconsin.  The star dancers will compete to raise the most money and take home the coveted Fundraising Mirror Ball Trophy.  This year’s participants will be revealed during a private kickoff party Tuesday, October 6. Presented by Festival Foods, the kickoff party will be held at The Marq on French Road in De Pere.

“This event continues to grow and create a buzz in the community,” says Chapter Executive Steve Hansen.  “The star dancers do a tremendous job not only on the dance floor but more importantly raising funds to help support local Red Cross efforts.”

Dancing with Our Stars is now in its eighth year.  Not only do those in attendance support local efforts, so can those not attending as the star dancers receive votes in the form of donations to the Red Cross.  One dollar equals one vote.  All funds raised support disaster prevention, preparation and relief, the life-saving training of first aid, CPR/AED classes, collection and testing of blood and blood products, support to military members serving around the globe and international programs.

Last year’s event raised nearly $170,000 in net revenue for the local Red Cross.  Ann Vande Hei of Wisconsin Public Service took home the Fundraising Mirror Ball Trophy after raising $60,000.

Dancing with our Stars 2016 will take place Saturday, February 20 at the KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay. Information about tickets will be available at a later date. More event information can be found on the following Red Cross platforms:

Dancing with the Stars Fundraiser Exceeds the $100,000 Goal in Year Three Thanks to an Amazing Team of Dancers

Everything this year was bigger and better for the 3rd Annual Dancing with the Stars for the American Red Cross Lakeland Chapter with DanceSport of Green Bay. This year’s event was held on Saturday, February 26 at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center, Green Bay.

Together with the amazing efforts of our ten celebrity dancers and our sponsors we raised over $112,000 to support Red Cross programs and services in our community. ”We set our sights on a goal of $100,000 and, blasted it to $112,268,” said Mauree Childress, Director of Development and organizer of the event. “I am personally humbled by all of talents, compassion and efforts our team of dancers and the community has done to support this event.”

“The event was incredibly successful and we are so grateful for the wonderful support from our community,” said Steve Maricque, Executive Director, Lakeland Chapter. “We needed help and the community responded. The support came at a time when we have experienced a significant increase in local fires resulting in our already exceeding our annual budget for direct assistance.” Maricque goes on to say, “We will continue to need help as additional local disasters happen throughout our community.”

Thank you to our sponsors Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, State Farm, Broadway Automotive and Evans Race & Van Dreel CPAs. We also thank our media partners of WBAY-TV2 and WIXX for their promotional support.

Our dancers definitely put their best foot forward to entertain and dazzle a sold-out crowd of 720 guests and volunteers. Our evening began with dinner and followed by our all star dance program were each celebrity performed two dances. The night concluded with honor dances from George Graphos and Janet Gollnick, and Mindy Bennett and Ben Wolf, followed by the awards and open dance for all our guests.

The scene is 1942.  The story is one that unfortunately is still repeated today.  Men and women, serving in the US Military, must leave their families to serve their country.  This presentation is dedicated to the service men and women, their families who wait and the Red Cross who supports the military families.  Dancing the waltz…..Murphy in the Morning and his partner, Naomi.
