Get to Know DWOS All Star: Adam Rockman

I made a major life change in 2010 when I decided to leave the motorsports industry I worked in for more than 10 years to return to school to pursue my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.  I graduated in 2012 and began working at Bellin Health where I am currently employed as a registered nurse (RN) in the intensive care unit (ICU).

I love my new career.  As an ICU RN, I often work with people on the worst day of their lives.  Although being an RN can be physically and emotionally exhausting, helping my patients and their families through tough times is one of the things that keeps me motivated in my job.

Originally from Escanaba, Michigan, I’ve has been living in the Green Bay area since attending St. Norbert College where I played football for the Green Knights.  I have a son named Troy and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Desmo.  We live together with my wonderful wife and DWOS teammate, Emily Matesic.

My favorite moment from my initial DWOS experience wasn’t really a moment at all.  It was the people.  This event has brought an eclectic group of people together because they all have a passion for helping people.  There are so many people involved with this event from all walks of life that are freely willing to give their time, money, services, and expertise to support the Red Cross.  I remember walking into the venue the night of the event and seeing how happy and excited everyone was.  Seeing this event come to fruition after all the months of work and preparation by so many peoples was an extraordinary feeling.

I decided to take part in DWOS All-Stars because especially this last year we had all been reminded of how important the Red Cross is.  2017 seemed to be a never-ending array of natural disasters and the Red Cross was there for all of them, helping people when they need help the most.  Joining the cast of DWOS All-Stars is a way of helping that organization in a way I couldn’t do simply by myself.  Combine that with the camaraderie and good times that you get with a group of people brought together for a common cause and joining the cast of DWOS All-Stars was a no brainer.
