Get to Know DWOS All-Star: Kelly Wolff

I’ve always loved to dance. I have many fun memories of dancing with my girlfriends in my parents’ basement, of being on my high school and college dance teams, and of course learning about ballroom dancing from Terry at TC Dance club.

During the day, I’m a scientist at Kimberly-Clark where I design lotions and potions for their personal care product lines. Kimberly-Clark is very supportive of both my volunteer activities to organize STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) events for kids and my pursuit of sustainability initiatives to reduce waste from our daily habits, as we all depend on this planet to eat, drink, breath, and live.  After work, I enjoy teaching at Aerial Dance Pole Exercise, a fitness based studio for women (and men) to safely build strength and confidence through the aerial arts while having fun! In addition, I am working towards a Masters in Cosmetic Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati.

It’s difficult to pick out just one moment from DWOS 2017 that stands out, because there were so many great experiences.  I had so much fun getting to know the rest of the 2017 DWOS participants and the Red Cross volunteers (I’m talking to you Barb, Sharon, Shawn, and Tara!), as well as seeing others in the community come together to support Team Vixens last year. But the one thing that stands out the most for me, was the emotional jolt I felt when my friend and Team Vixen partner from last year, Lusine Weitz, first shared with me her experiences with the Red Cross in the immediate aftermath of the tragic 1988 Armenian earthquake. That feeling of empathy serves as a constant reminder of why we are here. It isn’t to ‘win’ or to worry about what others think about us or our routine, it is to do what we can to help others in need.

Why did I decide to take part in DWOS All-Stars? Not only do I love to dance, I am honored to help raise money and bring awareness to the Red Cross and the work that they do for our community. Volunteering and supporting volunteer organizations are a part of how we show our compassion for each other and we reinforce our sense of community. That’s why I decided to participate in DWOS All-Stars, for when we help others, we truly get more out of it than we give. With this in mind I’d like to thank you for supporting this event and helping those in need in our community.

Get to Know DWOS All-Star: Paul Kardish

I was born in California but raised in Philadelphia (FLY EAGLES FLY!) as the middle of seven kids.  My mom, Pat, was probably the best cheerleader in the world and I wish she was here to see whatever it is I do on February 24th!  I have been married to my best friend who just also happens to be a wonderful person and mom, Lisa, for 10 years.  I could not have chosen a better partner in crime to go through life with than Lisa!   In my mind, there is no better person for me than her and she is the love of my life.   Lisa and I have an amazing son, Hudson, who is 7 and makes us real proud every single day.  I am very fortunate and proud to have such an absolute spectacular family!  I can only hope one day I am able to repay my family, especially Lisa, for their belief in me.

Currently, I am General Counsel at Schneider and have been there for the last 4+ years.  Schneider has been a very rewarding professional experience where I don’t think I ever worked as hard but also never had as much fun/laughed so hard as I ever had in a job.  Schneider is a remarkable company with phenomenal leaders and I am very lucky to be a part of such a great team.

I have been very fortunate to serve our country as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for almost six years.  It was with the FBI incidentally that I had my first exposure to the Red Cross – I was working a bank robbery/bombing crime scene and the Red Cross services van and emergency services team stayed with us the entire time we processed the crime scene – almost 24 hours!

I am a very proud alumnus of Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA which had great success in this year’s NCAA March Madness finishing runner-up!

I am very fortunate to serve as a member of the board of the American Red Cross for Northeast Wisconsin – Greatest American Red Cross Chapter in the U.S.  The members of the board, led by Steve Hansen and Pat Exarhos, are some of the best in the business and our Chapter is in great hands!  Can’t thank all the Red Cross volunteers enough for all they do…they are truly unsung heroes!

I decided to take part in DWOS All-Stars to help maximize donations on behalf of the greatest Red Cross chapter in the US!  Also, it is just something I would never do…so why not embarrass yourself for a good cause!

I was born and raised in Green Bay, WI and will be celebrating 25 wonderful years of marriage to my college sweetheart, Mike. We have two sons, Brandon (24) and Garitt (20). We also have a sweet Golden Retriever named Zowie. I enjoy outdoor activates like trail running, biking, hiking, kayaking and of course my passion is the dance floor. For the past 11 years Prophit Marketing has been my home away from home. I’ve been blessed to work for an extraordinary company with some truly amazing individuals.

There are so many memorable experiences from my DWOS 15 participation it’s hard to only choose a favorite. I would have to say that it was the outpouring support from the community. People had actually approached me in saying that they wanted to have a fundraiser for the Red Cross. It’s so wonderful seeing people use their time and talents to give back to an organization that gives so much back to our community. I also created life-long friendships. The people you meet along the way are so passionate about what they do. The Red Cross staff and volunteers are so wonderful, kind hearted and some of the greatest people you’ll ever meet. And of course, it was great being able to get back on the dance floor and perform again. Michael and Mina Witte have been wonderful in teaching me ballroom dance. They certainly live their moto of bringing light into people’s lives through the art of dance.

When I heard about the line-up of dancers for DWOS All-Stars, how could I say no! You are in for a real treat this year. The mix of people, talents and passions are going to make one grand finale. The opportunity that excites me is to give back to our community once again. I am looking forward to a variety of fundraising events, spending time in the studio practicing and making new friends. It was an honor to be asked to participate again this year and I promise to make this one of the biggest and best events yet!

DWOS17 Meet our Star Dancers: Culinary Chemist – Jyll Everman & Sarah Larson

Sarah Larson (left) and Jyll Everman  – Team Culinary Chemist

Jyll Everman

In the spring of 2016 I moved back to Green Bay after living in Los Angeles for 19 years to help open a new business and re-establish my family roots. I’m the co-owner and executive chef of Gather on Broadway, a full-service event venue. I once competed on Food Network’s Food Network Star and enjoy creating upscale comfort food. I’m blessed with a wonderful family: my husband, Tommy, and two sons Jack and Luke. I love to cook, entertain, play Yahtzee and watch Top Chef. And of course, Dancing with the Stars!

I started dancing around the house at a young age and took “Vogue-ing” lessons in 7th grade! My favorite thing on the planet is the dance floor at weddings. I am the first one out and the last one off.

My dream dance partner would either be Derek Hough or Mark Ballas. Rumor Willis is my favorite all-time participant from ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” because I was touched by her story of being bullied all the time and I felt she really rose above that hate. I also loved Kelly Pickler and Donald Driver.

I love being involved in charitable causes and the American Red Cross is always the first place I donate when disasters happen. It’s a wonderful organization and I’m honored to support it through Dancing with Our Stars!

14639711_1697146820532128_8351593407010876392_nOriginally from South Milwaukee, I came to Green Bay five years ago to start my college career at UWGB. Since graduating in 2015, I am now happy to call Green Bay my home where I work as a Quality Control Chemist at Nature’s Way. I am a self-proclaimed nerd so at any given moment you’ll find me geeking out over a book, movie, or new science factoid I recently discovered.  I’m also a big fan of going on hikes as it’s one of my favorite ways to unwind and just enjoy the seldom nice days we get.  Dance has been a major part of my life since I was four and I’m extremely grateful that I’m able to use my passion and talents to give back to this community.

Since I’ve been dancing for 20 years, I have a ton of dance memories making it hard to pinpoint which one qualifies as being my ‘first’. I can say that for most of my childhood, wanting to one day play the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker was the driving force behind my passion for dance. Sadly, I never accomplished that dream, but I’m now in a professional ballroom dance partnership which I think is a pretty good alternate.

My dream dance partner has got to be Neil Haskell. He’s been my dance crush since he was on season 3 of So You Think You Can Dance. I actually got to meet him when I saw the tour. I might have fangirled… a lot.

Benji Schwimmer is my all-time favorite person from “Dancing with the Stars.” He has incredible energy and puts so much personality into his dancing which makes him an incredible performer.

The American Red Cross does so much to help people in our community. It provides so many services to help those in need and are always there to help in times of disaster and tragedy. I am honored to support an organization that does so much!
