Get to Know DWOS All-Star: Bill McGlin

I am born and raised in the Shawano Lake area. My passion for dance started way back at the young age
of 10 at The Country Club in Cecil where I quickly became a line dancing sensation. I started teaching
line dance at the age of 13 and two years later started my days of competing nationally. I captured the
world championship title in 2000 after returning from a five-month tour overseas in England, Scotland,
Whales, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland and Ireland where I taught and performed with the best in
the line dance industry. When I am not showing off my line dance and west coast swing skills, I fulfill my
professional career as a 911 Communications Supervisor, which I have worked in the field for the past
17 years. My passion for helping others and saving lives has been enhanced with my time as a volunteer
EMT for 16 years.

One experience from my DWOS 15 participation that stands out in a humorous way happened during
rehearsals. Dancing with Mina was never a dull moment! And throwing in a few lifts and tricks into our
routine also meant practicing things that I have never done…And let’s just say that there was one
rehearsal Mina ended up on the floor with me on top of her. No one was hurt! I didn’t break Mina!

I decided to participate in DWOS All-Stars because of two words…PEER PRESSURE!! (haha) But in all
seriousness, DWOS was so much fun and allowed me to explore another avenue of dance and show off
my west coast swing moves as well! I have always had a strong drive to help and give back to the
community and the American Red Cross is an extraordinary organization to do this for.

Get to Know: DWOS15 Dancer Bill McGlin

6900Bill (1)I’m a 911 Communication Supervisor for Brown County Public Safety and also an EMT with Wescott EMS in Shawano County.  I have committed myself to helping others by working in the public safety field for 15 years. Now I’m ready to step out onto the ballroom floor and see what magic I can create!!!

At the age of 10, my family took a vacation to Texas to visit my Aunt who was stationed in the military.  One afternoon we went to the Stockyards in Fort Worth to take in the attractions.  While at Billy Bob’s Dance Hall I was exposed to country line dancing and couples dancing.  From that moment I was fascinated with line dancing.  Once back home we saw a local ad for line dance lessons at a local establishment.  I started taking lessons, which I quickly picked up.

Cheryl Burke is my dream dance partner!  She is an amazing dancer and true inspiration.  She has the competitive drive and passion for dance as well as a humble personality. She’s not my favorite dancer of all-time on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”, though. That would be Derek Hough.  He is an amazing dancer and choreographer.  I am in awe of his style, dedication and chemistry with his partners.  He is always having a great time on the show.

HERE’s a sneak peek of Bill and his dance partner Mina of Simply Ballroom:

My passion for the dance floor has carried me through my life and around the world teaching, competing and performing.  When I don’t have my dance shoes on, I enjoy exploring the outdoors through hiking, biking, kayaking, boating and road trips across the country.  I have always had a love for music and enjoy the fine arts as well.  I enjoy a night out on the town but have just as much fun spending an evening at home with family and friends for game nights.

The mission of the American Red Cross falls into place with my line of work.  I have worked with the Red Cross hand-in-hand both on the scene of emergencies as well as in the Communication Center requesting their services for our responders and the public in the time of need.  The Red Cross is always there when the public safety responders request them for their services.  Dancing with Our Stars gives me the opportunity to give back to this great community organization.  I am honored to be a part of such a worthy cause.

They will now spend the next four months learning two ballroom dances which they will perform at Dancing with our Stars 2015. That event will take place Saturday, February 14th, at the KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay. Dancing with our Stars is now in its seventh year and it is has been a sold-out event each year. Not only do those in attendance support local efforts, so can those not attending as the “star dancers” receive votes in the form of donations to the Red Cross. One dollar equals one vote. Donations can be made now at this website:

The person who raises the most money between now and the end of the event will be awarded the coveted Fundraising Mirror Ball Trophy. All funds raised support disaster prevention, preparation and relief, the life-saving training of first aid, CPR/AED classes, collection and testing of blood and blood products, support to military members serving around the globe and international programs.

Last year’s event raised a record $500,000 for the local Red Cross.  Jim Rivett, President of Arketype, Inc. took home the Fundraising Mirror Ball Trophy after raising $200,000, which also set a record for personal fundraising.

Rane Cegelski, Bruce Marshall Dance Studio, Simply Ballroom of Green Bay and TC Dance Club of Appleton are the participating dance partners for the event.

Peta Murgatroyd, who teamed with Green Bay Packers legend Donald Driver to win Season 14 of ABC-TV’s Dancing with the Stars, will once again serve as a celebrity judge at the event.

Information about tickets will be available at a later date. More event information can be found on the following Red Cross platforms:
