Get To Know: DWOS15 Dancer Ann Vande Hei

ann VI’m the Director of Business Process Performance at Wisconsin Public Service/Integrys. Currently, I’m working in Chicago on Peoples Gas Utility’s Gas Main Replacement program. I’ve been married to my husband, Dave, for 35 years. We have two daughters: Allie and Britta; two wonderful son-in-laws: Jeff and Saul; and four AMAZING grandchildren: Addison, Kennedy, Liesl and Warner.

I remember first dancing with my Dad. I was probably about five or six years old. We were at a family wedding and we danced the Flying Dutchman. At weddings, Mom and Dad were always the first on the dance floor. It used to embarrass me as a teenager, but as I became older and wiser, I saw what a wonderful thing that was. They were great dancers.  Dad AWLAYS asked me to dance a waltz or polka. I cherish those memories.

For the first 30 years that I was with my husband, we had a rule that if he danced, I immediately took the car keys. He was in no shape to drive home if he got out on the dance floor. Now, after taking some lessons in ballroom dancing, we dance every chance we get.  I would also give anything to dance with my Dad again.

Wow, there are SO many. I loved watching Cheryl and Emmitt Smith on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”.  Kirstie Allie was a hoot, too; so much guts and a fantastic dancer.  But, I have to say that Valerie Harper was amazing. She showed so much courage.

I have quite a busy life, shuttling between Chicago and Green Bay each week. But I love it. When I am in Chicago I love to walk along the riverfront and of course shop on Michigan Avenue. But I am always glad to get home to Green Bay and breathe in the outdoors, listen to the quiet.  I enjoy hanging out with my grandchildren, riding bikes, taking a cruise in our convertible and enjoying life on the family compound.

I support the American Red Cross because a good friend of mine, Jody Weyers, works for the organization and I see so many amazing things that she does to help people in need. I am honored to be her friend and be able to help out in my own way by raising funds through DWOS.

Here is a sneak peek of Ann and her dancer partner, Bruce Marshall.

That event will take place Saturday, February 14th, at the KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay. Dancing with our Stars is now in its seventh year and it is has been a sold-out event each year. Not only do those in attendance support local efforts, so can those not attending as the “star dancers” receive votes in the form of donations to the Red Cross. One dollar equals one vote. Donations can be made now at this website:

The person who raises the most money between now and the end of the event will be awarded the coveted Fundraising Mirror Ball Trophy. All funds raised support disaster prevention, preparation and relief, the life-saving training of first aid, CPR/AED classes, collection and testing of blood and blood products, support to military members serving around the globe and international programs.

Last year’s event raised a record $500,000 for the local Red Cross.  Jim Rivett, President of Arketype, Inc. took home the Fundraising Mirror Ball Trophy after raising $200,000, which also set a record for personal fundraising.

Rane Cegelski, Bruce Marshall Dance Studio, Simply Ballroom of Green Bay and TC Dance Club of Appleton are the participating dance partners for the event.

Peta Murgatroyd, who teamed with Green Bay Packers legend Donald Driver to win Season 14 of ABC-TV’s Dancing with the Stars, will once again serve as a celebrity judge at the event.

Information about tickets will be available at a later date. More event information can be found on the following Red Cross platforms:
