Get to Know DWOS Community Star Dancer – Anna Allen

IMG_2741I am a 6th grade teacher at Lineville Intermediate School in Howard-Suamico.  I have been teaching for 14 years and continue to love what I do.  I am blessed to be able to teach in such a great district with a supportive staff and administration.  My wonderful and understanding husband, Jerome, and I have been married for five years and we have three beautiful children, Asher(3), Lyla(1), and our retired greyhound named Hazel.  In my spare time (if any) I enjoy reading and watching musicals.

My first dance memory was with my younger sister, Sara.  We would put on the soundtrack to Dirty Dancing and dance around the living room for hours.  My mom put us in dance class and a new passion was found!  I danced throughout high school and received a dance scholarship for UW-Green Bay.  While attending Green Bay I was part of the Phoenix Pride Dance Team and performed in Danceworks and in the musical Pippin held at the Weidner Center.  That was a dream come true!  After college, I performed with Broadwaymania, the Miss Wisconsin Pageant, and with St. Norbert’s Music Theatre.  I continue to choreograph musicals in the area.

My dream dance partner is the late Patrick Swayze.  Who didn’t fall in love with him in Dirty Dancing and Ghost? Not many people know he was a professionally trained ballet dancer.  I always wanted to do “the lift,” but I am fairly certain that time has passed for me!  My favorite dancer from Dancing with the Stars is Cheryl Burke. I can tell that she is a great teacher with a passion for dance and was the first professional to win back to back seasons.  Also, short girls rock!

I am supporting the American Red Cross because of all the help and relief it provides to those in need.  When my friend’s house burnt down the Red Cross was there immediately to provide her and her family with the supplies and the support they needed.  I am thankful for all they do and honored to participate in DWOS!
