Get to Know DWOS Community Star Dancer – Maureen Gagnon

i-CZkWprG-XLI have been blessed with a wonderful family.   My husband Jim Gagnon and I raised twin boys that are now married and we couldn’t be prouder of the young men they have become.  We have a family owned business that we are all involved with in some way.  Jim is the President; Jamison is in sales and runs our growing fireplace department.  Andre is our website and tech guy when needed.  I am also in sales and a licensed Interior Designer.   Gagnon Clay Products is a brick, stone, masonry and fireplace company that has been in existence since 1914, three generations run by a family member.

I have lots of hobbies including Cycling, Golf, Zumba, and Yoga. I would like to add traveling to this list when I retire, however one of my most treasured passions is Ballroom dancing.   I am grateful to have my husband Jim as my partner to share the dance experience.  We started dancing together when we became “Empty Nesters” when our boys went off to college. We now both have dance fever and like to practice our dancing and learn new dances too.  I probably have my dance instructor Terry Irwin to thank for bring out our passion for dancing.

My first dance recollection is dancing and singing to Michael Jackson from the Jackson 5’s  “ABC” in my bedroom to a vinyl 45 record on my phonograph in my bedroom.  Ok that had to be in the early 70s!

I already have my dream dance partner, my husband Jim Gagnon.   We know each other so well that it makes for a good partnership.  I also know most of his dance moves!

Derrick Hough is my favorite dancer on the show Dancing with the Stars.  His choreography is always stunning and the dance he creates with his partner is always a joy to watch.

My husband Jim Gagnon & I have been supporting the Red Cross for the past 11 years and this is why: The American Red Cross is a necessary nonprofit organization that responds to emergency situations and helps fill basic human needs during disaster situations.  During emergency situations the media will always point out that the Red Cross is on the scene.  The Red Cross is known for their blood drives collecting lifesaving blood needed every day.  There are numerous other needs fulfilled locally like, providing rides for the elderly and people with disabilities, again providing for basic human needs.  This is all accomplished by volunteers!

Get to Know DWOS Community Dancer – Karen Classon

karen ClassonI’m a business owner deeply invested in my community, a passionate participant in all kinds of activities including dance, and a staunch supporter of the American Red Cross. So how could I not get involved in Dancing With Our Stars?

My connection to the American Red Cross is a personal one. I own and operate SKB Management Inc, a Green Bay apartment development and property management firm formed by myself and my late husband Stephen more than 30 years ago.

In that time, my renters have experienced everything nature and misfortune can dish out:  fires, floods, windstorms, tornadoes … you name it. And each time, WHO WAS THERE FIRST? The American Red Cross, ready with water, food and even shelter for every resident who needed help, no questions asked. Dancing With Our Stars is now my chance to give something back.

I vividly recall my first dance – a polka with my father at a wedding. Back then, every Wisconsin wedding reception featured a polka or a waltz, and my parents would always dance them. Since that first polka with my Dad, I’ve loved them all — waltzes, rock and roll — and yes, still the polka!

My dream dance partner was of course Steve, who passed away in 2012. What I wouldn’t give to have one more dance with him!

Beyond work and dance, I stay active through hiking, biking, snowshoeing, skiing and fitness training. I also enjoy travel, reading, Door County and spending time with my wonderful friends and family.I’m honored for the opportunity to give back to the American Red Cross, helping to raise funds for this great organization through Dancing With Our Stars. I look forward to your support!

Plank for a Cause #redcross100

Jen Plank

A 100 second plank in gratitude to the volunteers that give their time to this great organization. Her is how I thought of the idea and how it works.

jen head shotHow it works:
1. You will be holding a 100 second plank (1m40sec) it can be whatever variation you want it to be, even modified, but no switching around.
2. After completion- share this photo and tag 3 friends to take the challenge using the hashtag #redcross100
3. This is all for a good cause! We suggest a $20 donation, but you can donate whatever you feel appropriate!

Have fun with it… Help create awareness and positive change! Maybe snap a pic and post on my FB Page.

I want to see those planks!   Jen

Get to Know DWOS Community Star Dancer – Anna Allen

IMG_2741I am a 6th grade teacher at Lineville Intermediate School in Howard-Suamico.  I have been teaching for 14 years and continue to love what I do.  I am blessed to be able to teach in such a great district with a supportive staff and administration.  My wonderful and understanding husband, Jerome, and I have been married for five years and we have three beautiful children, Asher(3), Lyla(1), and our retired greyhound named Hazel.  In my spare time (if any) I enjoy reading and watching musicals.

My first dance memory was with my younger sister, Sara.  We would put on the soundtrack to Dirty Dancing and dance around the living room for hours.  My mom put us in dance class and a new passion was found!  I danced throughout high school and received a dance scholarship for UW-Green Bay.  While attending Green Bay I was part of the Phoenix Pride Dance Team and performed in Danceworks and in the musical Pippin held at the Weidner Center.  That was a dream come true!  After college, I performed with Broadwaymania, the Miss Wisconsin Pageant, and with St. Norbert’s Music Theatre.  I continue to choreograph musicals in the area.

My dream dance partner is the late Patrick Swayze.  Who didn’t fall in love with him in Dirty Dancing and Ghost? Not many people know he was a professionally trained ballet dancer.  I always wanted to do “the lift,” but I am fairly certain that time has passed for me!  My favorite dancer from Dancing with the Stars is Cheryl Burke. I can tell that she is a great teacher with a passion for dance and was the first professional to win back to back seasons.  Also, short girls rock!

I am supporting the American Red Cross because of all the help and relief it provides to those in need.  When my friend’s house burnt down the Red Cross was there immediately to provide her and her family with the supplies and the support they needed.  I am thankful for all they do and honored to participate in DWOS!
