Hi! My name is Matt Smith and I am a Weekend Morning Anchor and Reporter. I have the pleasure of waking up at 4am every Saturday and Sunday with fellow Star, Rebecca Schuld (in different homes obviously…!), to let you know the world hasn’t ended overnight while telling you about all the murderers and robbers running around. Seriously, I love my job and am very thankful to be working for WBAY – a station that still has a strong emphasis on journalism and community involvement. I am aMinnesotanative living in Packers’ territory. I attendedSt.John’sUniversityinMinnesota, with a degree in communications and political science. Some of my hobbies include watchingMinnesotasports lose games, running, and spending time with families both inWisconsinandMinnesota. I’d like to thank my family fromMinnesotawho will be making the trip to watch me dance and help raise money for the Red Cross!
My first memory as a dancer is with my Grandparents. My Grandma thought it would be a great idea to put some end-table decorations on our heads and dance around the living room. I was 18. Just kidding! More seriously, at our first dance in the 7th grade, out of all of my middle school friends I was the first to ask a girl to dance with me. I still brag about that with my friends to this day! Watching Dancing with the Stars on ABC, my favorite dancer would have to be Nancy Grace. “Wardrobe malfunction.” Justice served. Enough said.
Because of my journalism career in Green Bay, I have a unique relationship with the Red Cross. I get to cover all of the fires and disasters and see the Red Cross in action. From the Green Bay apartment fire in the middle of the winter to our brave local volunteers driving towards the heart of a disaster across country, the need is real. So, too, is their passion. The impact of our local Red Cross chapter cannot be summed up in words or numbers but through all the stories of those touched in their darkest moments.
