Jay is a student at UWGB who is receiving a B.A. in Applied Music and a minor in Arts Management.  He started Ballroom Dancing at a really young age, but didn’t start really enjoying the art of Ballroom until his sophomore year in college at UW Fox Valley.

Jay is originally from Menasha, WI, and has lived there for his entire life until he came to Green Bay for his education.  His passion for the arts has driven him this far to continue and learn as much as he can and it will continue to motivate him.

Learn a little more about Jay:

1.  Describe your first dancing recollection. About how old were you and what was the occasion?

The first recollection of dancing for Jay was at an age of 6 years old when his father was home and wanted to practice some East Coast Swing.  He said “ Son, come here, I would like to show you something about dancing.”  I was like “what in the world is happening, I don’t dance, but I got up and I learned the basic step to the Swing that day.”

2.   Tell about your ballroom experiences.  How did you get into it?

Jay has been Ballroom dancing competitively for a little over a year.  He has had prior teaching his sophomore year in college, but it was all learning dance patterns and strictly recreational.  It was a fun time of his life, and then he came to UWGB and started learning technique which he has found helpful and challenging, and always an extremely fun time.

3.  Who is your favorite dancer of all time on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and why?

Unfortunately, Jay does not watch much TV, but hears many great things about the dancers on the show.

4.  What’s your favorite song?

There are many songs Jay enjoys a lot. His favorite song would have to be “More than Words” by Extreme.  It has been a favorite of his since the age of 5, next would be Meatloaf’s, “I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that”– another favorite from his childhood.

5. Why support the Red Cross with your participation?

Jay supports the Red Cross because they are an organization that has been around for many, many years and performs wondrous tasks to support people in need.  Since he strongly believes in helping others when he can, it only seems right to support an organization that helps others in a positive manner.

Hobbies or passions:  Jay likes to spend his time outside playing sports such as Lacrosse, Tennis and, Disc Golf when the weather is nice.  Otherwise he is found playing piano, dancing, and spending time with family and friends.
